"Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:19

Settling for less than your best

Often in life we settle for less than our best. Most times this carries on into our faith. God becomes something that is just “there.” We are satisfied with our Sunday mass and forget to strive for more. We think that just because we’ve gone to mass on Sunday our religious needs for the week have been fulfilled, but that’s not the case. In life, you often have to practice something to be good at it. The same goes for religion. We have to “practice” our faith each and everyday if we are to become good at it.

What would happen if Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, and Jerry Rice would have never practiced? They would not have succeeded in their professions and they would not have been known in the eyes of millions of people. In this same way if we don’t practice our faith we will never become “professionals” and we may not be “known” as holy in the eyes of Jesus. As bishop Sam said, “Use it or lose it.” Next time you’re out there practicing to perfect your sport, try to make time to practice to perfect your soul.

God Bless,
